News posted by www.newsinfoline.com

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 29 (PTI) Business establishments across Kerala remained closed today as traders from all over the state converged here to protest against acquisition of land for construction of National Highways. Responding to the protest call by the traders'' council Kerala Vyapari Vyvasayi Samiti, hundreds of traders from all parts of Kerala met here to take part in a march to highlight their demands, officials said. The traders'' body said they wanted the width of the proposed highway to be limited to 30 feet instead of 40 or 60 ft, which they feared would demolish roadside shops. They also wanted the government to ensure sufficient compensation for demolished shops and rehabilitation of displaced shop owners and workers.
