DUTA, DU row flares up again

New Delhi, July 28 -- The Delhi University and the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) are back to their warring ways after the Delhi High Court on Tuesday told both parties to involve student organisations in solving the impasse over the implementation of the semester system. The registrar of Delhi University on Tuesday had sent a letter to all the college principals stating that some teacher activists are misleading the teaching community by saying the matter of implementation of semester system in the science courses is subjudice before the Delhi High Court. The letter also said the matter before the court was not about the implementation of semester system as it has been already approved but was regarding the petition filed by the university seeking restraint order against the DUTA office bearers from making any obstruction in the implementation of the semester system. Reacting to the letter, a Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) press release on Wednesday said after they had consistently pointed out the gross violation of the University Act, statutes, and ordinances in passing the semester system for the 13 science courses, the high court had asked the university to enter into meaningful mediation with the teachers.
