Raina`s debut century helps India avoid follow-on

Suresh Raina stroked a memorable century on his test debut to help India avoid the follow-on in the second test against Sri Lanka on Thursday.Raina and Sachin Tendulkar carried their overnight partnership to 236 runs for the fifth wicket as India went to lunch on 477 for four, in reply to Sri Lanka's first innings of 642-4 declared, on the fourth day.India trail the hosts by 165 runs and 1-0 in the three-test series.Both batsmen batted throughout the morning session, adding 95 runs off 27 overs without losing a wicket. Tendulkar was unbeaten on 152 and Raina on 112 at the break.Dilhara Fernando tested Raina with a few bouncers and Suraj Randiv troubled Tendulkar from around the wicket but there was no breakthrough for the hosts.Raina reached his century with a cover drive off Dammika Prasad for his 10th four, while Tendulkar continued serenely from the other end, reaching his 150 off 261 balls with one six and 20 fours.(Editing by Peter Rutherford)
